“Officer Karl, give me the visitor records, I’ve got a hunch I need to confirm,”
At the museum entrance, Du Wei stood in the rain, his voice carrying an unusual tone.
He now suspected that the entire museum had undergone some sort of unknown transformation.
Well…
Put simply, the museum had become something like the corridor behind that door.
Those inside were walking in circles, never finding the door, hence unable to leave.
If people outside went in, they too would become trapped.
Soon, Officer Karl had someone bring the visitor records to Du Wei.
Harry and the others looked serious, hoping for answers from Du Wei.
They were fairly experienced in dealing with Evil Spirits, but when it came to this kind of bizarre incident, they were at a loss.Professional matters should be left to professionals.
After looking through the visitor records, Du Wei’s expression darkened.
“Those trapped inside were mostly visitors from half an hour ago; there were people who had entered and left before them,”
“Meaning that at that time, there wasn’t a problem,”
“But after that time period passed, the anomaly began occurring,”
“I don’t recommend just barging into the museum because that might put us in a desperate situation”
After hearing this, Officer Karl gritted his teeth and said, “But the people are inside, we can’t just do nothing.”
Agreeing, Du Wei said, “I feel the same, but we need to ensure our safety, so help me find a living creature, anything, a cat or dog will do.”
Officer Karl asked warily, “What are you going to do?”
Du Wei replied coldly, “To test my theory.”
Officer Karl said helplessly, “Using animals as test subjects, I don’t know what to say,”
Du Wei’s gaze was indifferent, “This is the most appropriate method under the current circumstances, don’t tell me you’re very fond of small animals.”
Officer Karl was choked up, he indeed liked animals quite a bit.
But it was just a subconscious comment; if it could save the people, he’d accept any number of animal deaths.
With this thought, Officer Karl hesitated no more and turned to his subordinate to instruct, “Go buy a cat from the pet store.”
Having said that, he turned back to Du Wei and spoke in a stern voice, “You can tell me how you want me to cooperate, but I need to ensure that the people inside can come out alive, understand?”
Du Wei nodded, “But this requires verification, otherwise, I can’t give you a definite answer.”
That door was anything but ordinary.
And that oil painting was just like another door, although he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, but it seemed impossible for these two objects not to be connected.
Moreover, based on the information Du Wei had found online about the painting, the legends surrounding it all involved people disappearing into thin air.
It’s very likely that they stepped into the door.
What’s the function of a door?
Open it to walk in, open it to walk out.
But considering all the information available, it seems that while walking in might be possible, trying to walk out could be troublesome.
Of course…
The problem with the museum occurred half an hour ago, when those visitors were mostly inside.
In other words, when the museum started to exhibit anomalies, these people happened to be in the door.
Perhaps they could open the door and walk out.
The condition being, their senses hadn’t been deceived.
After a while,
Officer Karl’s subordinate came over with a black cat on a leash.
Du Wei took the leash and approached the entrance cautiously, grabbing an umbrella, and he pushed open a crack in the museum’s door.
Instantly,
An inexplicable chill rushed to Du Wei’s heart, a creeping sensation spreading along his skin as if a living thing aimed to burrow into his pores.
Suddenly…
A pale face darted past the gap in the door.
That face bore a cold smile, with the corners of the mouth turned up quite dramatically.
“Hiss…”
The black cat bristled and stared at the gap in the door, hissing in a way completely different from a normal cat’s meow.
It was frightened as well.
Officer Karl, standing behind, let out an exclamation, his voice trembling as he said, “Fuck… What was that? Did you see it? A face just flashed by.”
Without answering, Du Wei urged the black cat to enter through the door.
On the other hand, Harry and the others hesitated before responding, “We all saw it, just as you did. What you’ve seen is indeed real.”
It was already dark now.
And it was also raining; catching sight of a human face all of a sudden in such a scene was indeed unsettling.
At that moment, the cat, too, had been prompted by Du Wei to enter through the door.
In the blink of an eye, it vanished into the darkness.
The leash, which had been taut, now drooped to the ground.
This meant that the cat had disappeared…
Du Wei, expressionless, pulled the leash in his hand; the black cat that had been attached to the end had completely vanished.
Most importantly, right in front of him…
The door that had just been opened a crack silently closed…
But in the state of Spirit Vision, Du Wei did not see the black cat through the glass door.
“I hate trouble…”
Speaking coldly, Du Wei turned to the others and said, “Now we can verify that when we push the door open and enter, we will be stepping into another place. As far as I know, that should be some kind of passageway, or perhaps a school that doesn’t exist in reality.”
“But there are people inside the door, they can come out; it’s just their five senses seem to be blocked, so we can’t remind them how to leave.”
“And when we push the door and enter, we will step into a conceptual world beyond the door.”
“So there’s only one way, someone has to go inside and shut the door from within, or destroy it.”
“Of course, the chances of coming back out after entering are frighteningly low…”
Harry couldn’t help asking, “What should we do then? Uh… I mean, do we really need someone to go in and shut the door from the inside?”
Du Wei replied with a cold tone, “It’s not a need, but a must. Otherwise, the entities behind the door will eventually come out. All four of you should know just how terrifying the things behind the door can be.”
Harry and the others’ complexions changed.
When they arrived, they had already seen the report Du Wei had left at the church and knew the secrets behind the door.
At least a hundred Evil Spirits, and there was also a terrifying entity named Hoddy.
Officer Karl, unaware of these secrets, listened in confusion and immediately interrupted, “Mr. Du Wei, are you suggesting that someone has to make a sacrifice? Otherwise, many people in Scolyn City might die?”
Du Wei’s expression was somewhat strange as he replied, “Pretty much.”
Officer Karl clenched his teeth and said, “I’m the police chief responsible for the public safety of Scolyn City. I grew up in this city and watched it develop step by step to this day, and I’m still single to this day. I have no burdens, so I should be able to go in, right?”
He had made the choice that someone in his position should make.
Yet Du Wei scoffed and said, “You don’t have the capability. Among all the people here, basically none have the capability to close the door, only I can do it.”
Officer Karl exclaimed in shock, “You hold a high position in the church; are you going it to sacrifice yourself? That’s not worth it.”
Du Wei replied coldly, “I only do what I must do.”
If it weren’t for the fact that the Evil Spirits behind the door bore a grudge against him, he wouldn’t bother with such matters, let alone risk his life.
Of course, Du Wei was confident in saying so, which meant he had a way to come back.
After all, he had dealt with these entities for far too long. He had two plans, both of which could allow him to escape unscathed.
Harry and Homier looked at Du Wei with complex expressions, wanting to say something but not knowing how to start.
However, Du Wei noticed their gaze and spoke calmly, “Don’t worry about me. How to rescue the people inside is what you should be thinking about.”
After saying this, he turned around and pushed open the door to the museum…
