Alex couldn’t help but frown at the proposal.
The man was asking him to get voluntarily taken away somewhere to get imprisoned. There was no guarantee that they had any way to find the truth, and worst of all, Alex was still responsible for part of the tragedy that had befallen the Hell Warrior sect.
He had killed enough people there that these people would have every right to punish him for it. And the fear that the punishment was more imprisonment did not make it any easier to come to a decision.
However, this was also in part what he had been wanting for a long time.
Alex had always wanted to go to the Endless Night sect, to meet with the people that knew more about how the Hell Emperor had left this world. He couldn’t go there as a disciple, and he was rejected from going there as a guest elder.
Now, he had a chance to go there as a prisoner.
It wasn’t ideal in any way, but it was a way.
“Alright,” Alex accepted, surprising himself at wanting to be imprisoned. “I will go.”
The short man who had been waiting for Alex’s answer was surprised. It appeared he hadn’t thought Alex would agree at all.
“Okay…” the man said slowly and turned to the other members of his sect. After a short nod, he faced Alex again. “Let us go then.”
The man brought out a thick metallic rope and used it to start tying Alex up. The rope was surprisingly strong, but it couldn’t hold Alex if he wanted to escape.
“The rope isn’t strong enough to bind you, but that is not its purpose,” the man said. “You will leave this rope upon you until we reach the sect. Should the rope come off, we will consider you hostile and attack you. Is that understood?”
Alex nodded.
“Whisker, time to leave.”
Alex spoke the word to the emptiness away from the sect, making everyone confused as to who he was talking about. A moment later, Whisker arrived and disappeared into his Beast Space.
Everyone was left stunned at what had just happened.
“Where… where did that mouse come from?” one of the other members of the Endless Night sect asked. “Where did it go?”
Alex looked toward the men, seeing their confused look. “You have never seen a bonded beast before, have you?” he asked.
“Bonded beast?” the short man asked, a look of surprise flashing through his face. “I’ve read about it in the old records. It says there was a time when beasts could be tamed by humans. Is that what you’re talking about?”
“Yes,” Alex said. “Anyway, I wanted to ask something before we left. Will I get to meet with… uhh… the Grand Elder was it? The one who was alive during the time of the Hell Emperor.”
The short man narrowed his eyes. “I cannot guarantee anything. Depending on your crime, though, someone bigger than me will get involved.”
Alex didn’t say anything else. He let the men take him.
They walked away from the crowd of people, going to the city first. As Alex was escorted, still in his blood armor, people gasped and watched along the way, each one fearful of his presence.
He was very famous at the moment, but because he only showed up with his blood armor in front of the sect, none of the city folks had seen him at all.
They all began to whisper about him, and Alex continued hearing the new title they had given him.
The Red Death.
‘Are they calling me the same as Death?’ Alex wondered. Based on just what he had done, the new title was too much for him. But based on what they thought he did, he supposed it made perfect sense.
After walking for a short while, they arrived at a building that was the branch of the Endless Night sect within this city.
Once they entered, Alex was taken to a room.
Alex wasn’t sure what he was doing there since he was told he would be taken to the Endless Night sect at first, but it appeared they were going to get as much out of him right here before they took him away.
They asked him one question after another, sometimes going over the same thing to catch him in his inconsistencies.
What surprised Alex the most was that the man was trying to get him to speak on how he got his hands on so much Elixir.
“I make Elixir myself,” Alex said.
“How?” the man asked.
“I assume the same way as your sect does,” Alex said.
“And how is that?”
Alex paused for a moment. “Is one of my crimes making Elixir?” he asked.
The man froze for a second and smiled. “Alright, you don’t have to tell me. But do tell me, are you from outside of Hell?”
Alex nodded. “How did you know?”
“Just a guess,” the man said. “We heard rumors of someone from outside of Hell arriving here a few decades ago. Considering how you’ve gained popularity out of nowhere, I figured you had to be. They must have long since perfected the art of creating Elixir outside of Hell.”
“Do you think Elixir exists outside of Hell?” Alex asked.
The man raised his eyebrows. “It doesn’t?” he asked. “How do you get stronger then?”
“Cultivation,” Alex said.
“But doesn’t cultivation only help with your longevity? How is it making you stronger?”
Alex was confused for a moment as to why the man couldn’t figure out such a simple matter. But then, he remembered who this man was and where he was born. In Hell, Qi was as useless as it could ever be.
The man did not know the true power of Qi.
“Let us talk about all of this once we’re at the sect, shall we?” Alex asked. “I don’t wish to stay tied up for too long.”
The man nodded. “Very well. I shall prepare for your transport.”
