Alex pushed himself further and further each passing day, improving not just his pain tolerance but also his Intent as well.
He had already reached the point of just barely making the seal flex, so with some time, he should be able to break through it as well. It had taken him a year to do so, however, so he would have to continue for many more months.
Alex did nothing to cultivate in this time, except consuming a few pills Whisker had brought with him in order to gain back his Qi.
As far as he knew, the Sunhearts were the cause of everything that was going on in his Soul Space. However, he couldn’t discount the fact that the Sun Wraiths may just be equally responsible as well.
So, he couldn’t absorb any Qi that wasn’t neutral. Even that he only did once every few months as it was needed. Otherwise, he didn’t want to do anything that would affect whatever was happening within his body.
Some months after that, Alex reached a point in his training where the mental pain induced through the formation he had purchased could no longer give him pain that was too hard to handle.
The formation was already working at its maximum effectiveness, so Alex needed some other ways to add onto his mental stress to make the training more effective.
He wanted to ask Whisker to help him by attacking him with Heaven’s Impact and other mental attacks. He wasn’t sure those would work on him at this point, but he could at least try.
However, Whisker wasn’t around when he needed him.
Whisker had been staying around less and less these past few months, seemingly fully invested in some other things.
Alex wanted to ask him what he was doing, but he decided not to do so. It wasn’t every day that Whisker was so invested in doing his own things, and he didn’t want to ruin it for him by asking him about it.
Besides, he had his own problems to deal with for now.
With Whisker’s absence, Alex was forced to find another way to add onto his mental pain. His first thought was to go purchase another formation to add onto this one.
But a thought struck him at that very moment, making him think of another way.
Whenever Alex split his Origin, it caused a lot of mental pain.
If split into two, the pain was barely noticeable.
If split into four, the pain became uncomfortable.
If split into eight, the pain was unbearable.
As Alex grew in his cultivation base, his Origins grew with him as well. The larger they became, the more painful they became to bear when split apart.
Alex had always known this would be the case all the way until the end of his Immortal Origin realm, at which point he would finally continue to grow mentally while his Origins became stable.
He had always hated when he had to cultivate them, so he did it a few at a time recently. But now, since he was going to need the pain to train, he went all the way through.
Alex sat in one spot and split his single Origin into two. The two split into four, causing some distress in his mind, and then the four split into eight, causing a sudden burdensome pain in his mind.
Having improved his mental pain threshold for the past year, Alex could now easily handle this pain. However, that wasn’t why he was doing this after all.
Alex slowly activated the formation again, increasing its effectiveness a bit at a time.
With his Origins already burdening his mind, the additional burden of the formation was far more effective than it ever was all by itself.
Even at just 40% effectiveness, Alex could feel the same level of pain as he did when the formation was at 100% effectiveness previously.
Realizing the difference, Alex decided to constantly keep his Origins split apart henceforth, never letting them join back in order to train himself.
And so, his training continued for much longer after that.
Alex trained endlessly, not counting day or night. All of his focus was poured entirely into the training and there were few breaks from them at all. Even when he was on break, Alex tried to keep his Origins split at all times to continue to train.
It took two months for him to improve enough to handle the current level of pain. Only then did he improve the formation’s effectiveness to 50%.
As he trained, the effectiveness of the formation was increased by 10% each time every few months. By the time he finally used all 100% of the formation’s effectiveness, nearly another year and a half had passed.
It had now been close to 3 years since Whisker came out of his Soul Space, screaming doom for the others inside his Soul Space. If not for Whisker, everyone in his Soul Space would have been in a lot of trouble by now.
Alex would’ve been in the desert, eating more Sunhearts, as he prepared to buy another few jars of Elixir.
That would have truly spelled doom for everyone. He hoped it hadn’t already been so.
Alex continued training for a few more months before his pain threshold reached a point where even the combined effects of the formation and his split Origin weren’t enough to render him useless.
Alex knew he needed to be stronger than this, so he improved his Intent even further. While burdened by everything, he began training his Intent in order to move around things once more.
The more he trained under such a stressful condition, the more he hoped his Intent would strengthen.
At first, Alex struggled to move a single pebble from one hand to the other. Then slowly, he got better. He could move the stone around easily and even began doing two.
He moved around multiple stones after that, and then moved on to something bigger.
And after training in such a way for nearly 6 more months, Alex finally felt comfortable to stop his training.
Finally, he was ready to attack the seal once again.
