Chapter 4450: A Bad Move?
"...!"
Every Nether Springs Death Wolf nearby was shocked at Nadia’s statement, their jaws dropping while their eyes went wide. It was quite comical to see wolves do that, but the solemness of the situation couldn’t be any more dire. Their eyes were focused on her, their breath held for her next statement.
Meanwhile, Nyoran and the others turned aghast.
Nadia said something that should not be revealed, especially after these wolves said that they could not give birth to a progeny. Now that Nadia revealed that she could get pregnant, even if they don’t fight each other for her like wild beasts wanting a mate, wouldn’t they keep her from leaving?
They felt this was a bad move.
However, the alternative was that they could be killed as well if they didn’t reveal why Nadia was an Anarchic Divergent. As far as they could tell, their hostility was not faked when they heard Nadia was an Anarchic Divergent. They figured it was because killing Divergents was a way to earn karmic virtue and, thereby, plead for the heavens to forgive them.
"W-What are you saying? Did you really break the bloodline curse...?"
The Patriarch trembled, his voice hoarse. Initially, he thought Nadia was uttering nonsense as to how she became an Anarchic Divergent. After all, he heard that she looked different- with wings and three tails. He felt that it wouldn’t be strange if she was a variant since that would be the cause of the divergence.
But now, she totally said something else- something that practically exploded in their minds and pierced through their composure.
They- the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan enjoyed glory and power. They could be said to have everything one could have in the Nether Dimension except the ability to make children. If they wanted to be intimate, the ground breaks, and the skies shatter. If they dared to go past that, then their tribulations would become extremely hard, and they wouldn’t be able to use the totems to overcome them. Even if they did go against the heavens and successfully splurge inside the female Nether Springs Death Wolf, nothing would come out of it.
They had tried. Tried every million years. Tried every hundred million years. Tried every billion years until they had become tired. Some had committed suicide because of it, becoming a bone for the Divine Nether Totem.
They finally learned they could do nothing about it when no more Nether Springs Death Wolves journeyed to this holy land. At that point, they possibly couldn’t dare to do anything other than survive as long as possible, hoping a change would occur. They needed to just sit and wait, protect the clan until their eventual ruin.
Go outside and look for a solution? Madness.
As Immortal Emperor Beasts and without the Divine Nether Totem, they couldn’t possibly survive. All that awaited them were all kinds of beings trying to hunt them for their unique nature.
"Yes," Nadia answered, appearing calm and collected, "I have three children from my loving husband: Ragna, Styx, and Noctis. They were born healthy and powerful, even retaining my Emperor-Tier Bloodline within them."
"...!"
Nadia’s statement further shocked them.
"Who!?" Yin couldn’t help but squeal, "Who is this husband of yours?"
"A human."
"..."
The Patriarch and the Nether Springs Death Wolves were dumbfounded.
Human?
What kind of joke was that?
They looked down upon humans. Who didn’t hate those opportunistic lifeforms? However, hating them was one thing, and a biological reality was another. The ovum of a Nether Springs Death Wolf, the essence of death, how would it be able to transfuse with a human’s yang? The yang wouldn’t survive, or if it survived because it was too strong, it would destroy the ovum instead.
They felt it was ridiculous. Their Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan was never known to have feys! Death-attributed wolves in the past had already tried mating with humans and failed.
However, they didn’t feel like she was joking around with how prideful she sounded.
"H-How?" The Patriarch asked, his heart practically throbbing as he swayed, feeling faint.
Nadia didn’t reveal her husband was another Anarchic Divergent. Instead, she thought about how Davis would deal with this situation. She thought really hard, biting her lips.
"Mmm... my husband created a heaven-defying beast-taming pact technique which also removed the racial curse I have... after that, I was able to have children..."
"...!"
While the Nether Springs Death Wolves were in disarray, Nyoran and Vereina inwardly cheered. Now, they felt that the Nether Springs Death Wolf Clan would have no choice but to let them go or come together with them back home.
"A beast-taming pact... that means the human would need to use it... in that case, can he make one for beast and a beast?"
And as expected, the Patriarch finally managed to regain composure and asked in a solemn tone. He jumped off the male Nether Springs Death Wolf head and transformed into a black-haired old man who was clothed in marginal black peasant robes, looking humble yet still somewhat good-looking for his age, standing with a hunched back and a walking cane in his hand.
He looked truly old, as though he could kick the bucket any time.
"I can’t vouch for it, but my husband is capable of many things, and he might actually come up with a solution. He’s the strongest the human race had ever seen, in my opinion." Nadia narrowed her eyes as she saw the Patriarch come closer, "I’m proud to be his wife, and I will not tolerate any other mate."
"Don’t worry. No one will harm you. Actually, you should know that our race isn’t lustful. We lack a lustful appetite that other races have due to our innate death constitution."
"..."
Nadia was stunned.
Then... was she the only Nether Springs Death Wolf that had gone through being in heat?
Suddenly, she felt so embarrassed, causing her cheeks behind her veil to redden.
The Patriarch nodded, "Humans have grown too powerful over the past few hundred billion years. When I was still a youth, they were mostly livestock, pitiful and endangered. There were not many Empyreans, barely scraping by and warring in the Lower Realms with other races. However, after they have come so far, I believe they are capable of doing many things. However, tell me. Can we believe you? Are you sure you’re not just making things up? If it is- this is your last chance to take back your words."
He looked at her, sad yet hopeful. It was as though if she said it was a story she made up, he might lose heart and possibly even have a breakdown.
"It’s not a story or a lie. If you want proof, then you can head back with me to the True Immortal World and see my children. A little bloodline check will easily allow you to tell if what I’m saying is the truth or not."
"Heh! Are you trying to take advantage of our weakness, knowing that we can’t fight back somewhere not here?"
Abruptly, Yom descended from the skies. Hela also accompanied him. She glared at him for being so rude.
Nadia was about to reply.
However, the Patriarch spoke first, "There’s another way what you’re saying can be proved- which also coincidentally matches with what you want."
Nadia narrowed her eyes, "What is it? The Den of Death?"
"Yes," The Patriarch looked into the distance, his old yet sharp eyes flashing with a strange gleam, "Since you claim to have broken the bloodline curse, you should be able to do what the others were not able to- what no one was able to do. Are you up for it?"
"That’s what I came here for, and I will do it without having to be nudged or provoked."
Nadia plainly answered, causing the Patriarch to smile, thinking she was an instinctual warrior.
He nodded, sending her to the Den of Death after some time.
