Chapter 3513: The Center
’What will you do about it?’ Rifindio asked Roan through a Divine Sense Message. They probably had more uses for whatever it was than anyone else there.
Roan, however, snorted. ’Hmph! What will we do? Simple, we will ignore it. We have no reason to rely on such a volatile concept that caused the creators to put their tails between their legs and run as fast as possible. If the robots and the Divine Snow Mountain Sect people wish to research more about it, that’s their problem.’
Rean agreed with him. ’Indeed. Let’s not force our luck, okay?’
In the end, the creators ran away, leaving the Evernight World for the robots to take care of. Any idiot would be able to tell that the dark energy being shot at the skies was what created and maintained the so-called barrier that kept that anomaly in check.
Of course, Roan still at least wanted to know what that anomaly was causing. "CAU431, just what is this anomaly? Are we under its effect?"
"I’m looking into the logs. If the others don’t mind, help me browse the files and the logs of the last years of the creators. There are just too many irrelevant things," CAU431 said.
The other CAU and SANS Units joined him, and they all focused on the files of the creators. After a while, they pulled out another thing. "Here we go. There are pretty much no logs regarding the anomaly since the creators fled as soon as they modified the robots. Little was left behind regarding it. This one here should give an idea, though."
-Wessi Riatew, Year 54327 of the Turesian Calendar.-
-Today, a little of the anomaly escaped the temporary confinement. We are still finishing setting up the barrier, so it was expected and dealt with. Nonetheless, seeing it touching my colleague gave me chills. His body began to change between states of gaseous, liquid, and physical nonstop. In the end, that little bit of the anomaly merged with his body, and that helped us contain it. If it spread, things could have gone much worse.-
-Further analysis showed that his soul suffered a similar fate to his body. That seemed something out of legend. The soul itself changes into other forms and properties. It goes without saying that his conscience was also done for. Even now, I can’t understand how the Law Heart gave birth to this anomaly. But then again, we were trying to mess with something that no one ever thought was possible to be messed with. Laws are what make the world what it is, and trying to mess with the very thing that makes the laws what they are was bound to give a backlash. May this lesson be learned, and no one ever touches it again.-
The CAU and SANS Units looked at each other. They are robots, and yet, they developed sentience codes. That was something that always puzzled them. Was it really, really possible for the codes that operated their every action to change into something capable of thinking and feeling? What if they turned into what they are because of the anomaly, the same anomaly that is being contained in this place?
Abi got a little concerned, though. Obviously, she and the other elders of the sect noticed this possibility. "If the anomaly was able to give you bunch sentience, then doesn’t that mean it is still escaping confinement? Perhaps it is a bad idea to stick around..."
Rean didn’t seem as concerned, though. "You are thinking too much. Did you forget? Just how many millions of years did it take for the robots to even start gaining sentience? Even if this anomaly is escaping its confinement somehow, it is so minuscule that I doubt it will cause the sect members any problems for the foreseeable future. Besides, it is only a theory that the robots gained sentience because of it, not something confirmed."
Abi and the others had to admit Rean made sense. "Rick, how about you stay and help us research it. You seem to know a lot more about laws than your cultivation dictates, even more than me. Naturally, we will try to take a look into it without causing trouble, and I believe the robots also want to know more about it."
She was right. Both CAU and SANS now had an interest in this anomaly, which might or might not be the reason why they gained sentience codes. "You are all welcome to take a look with us. First, we need to check just what happened to the anomaly itself. Is it still here? We know the Evernight World is its confinement, but where exactly is it being contained?"
Rean shook his head out of interest. He had just finished taking the body of the last woman down. "Sorry, but that’s not something I want to try out. I won’t stop you, but if I were you, I wouldn’t really do anything about it. Seems too risky for my taste."
Rean and his group had a clear path ahead, a path that would lead them to the Celestial Realm if they survived long enough. There was no need to look into this anomaly. Of course, Rean was still curious about the Laws Heart, but if the anomaly was a possible backlash of it, he rather not give it a try.
SANS-G08 suddenly spoke. "Oh! I found it! It’s being contained at the very center of the Evernight World. It’s a little far from the city, though. Here’s the location." He then passed the location on the map to everyone.
CAU03 took a look at the map with the other CAU Units. Different from the SANS Units, they weren’t confined to the city and have long since explored the entire Evernight World. "I know where it is. That is a pretty dangerous territory, with a lot of high-level Night Beasts. From the various CAU-E explorers that we sent out, only a few returned from there. At some point, we gave up checking that place in more detail."
"How dangerous are we talking about?" Abi asked. Since they wanted to check, they naturally had to delve into that place. And for that, CAU03 decided to bring another robot to talk.
