Chapter 247: Battle (1)
Jayce was shook. Despite knowing that he was currently experiencing a vision, there was not one part of the experience that made it feel this way.
All his 5 senses were telling him that he really was here, inside this epic battle. Thankfully this was not the case, as Jayce knew that he would not even last a few seconds embroiled in this hell.
The problem was, he did not know how to remove himself from this vision. There should be a reason why he was taken to this place, and only once that reason was revealed would he be able to leave.
From his earlier suspicions, he assumed that it was the dark sword that had transported him here, so what better option did he have than to follow its journey.
Jayce looked around his vicinity, yet the battlefield was too chaotic to track down Rubick in all of this mess. Clouds of dust and dismembered bodies littered his surroundings, making it almost impossible to see past 5 to 10 meters in front of him.
’I need an aerial view.’ He thought, looking around for some high ground.
However, he already knew that the battlefield was just comprised of some rolling hills and the forest which was behind him. There would be nowhere appropriate to get a better view, unless of course he could fly like those other beings…
Before he could dismiss the idea as foolish, Jayce jumped up high and willed himself to float. Usually this would be an utterly stupid thing to do, especially since he had never flown in his life.
Yet he did not experience the sensation of falling, in fact he felt weightless as his body continued to ascend into the sky slowly and majestically. As he got further away from the ground, he tried to slow his ascent using his will.
Thankfully, it seemed rather easy to control himself in the air by using his mind, which meant he could use more brainpower trying to locate the sword.
Jayce stared upon the battlefield from his high vantage point in the sky and sucked in a cold breath of air. Unlike when he was on the ground, he could now see clearly how Earth’s army was fairing from the invaders.
The humans were easily outnumbered, yet they stayed in tight formation which allowed them to fight multiple enemies at once with the help of their comrades.
He looked on in awe as their seemed to be some strange kind of power held within these formations. It was as if they were one entity, rather than the 5 or 6 individuals who comprised of the group.
Their battle formation would use the collective strength of those within it to attack and defend, based on the positions of the warriors themselves. With this, they were able to take on enemies which were even stronger than the sum of their might.
However, it was not long until these formations at the vanguard began to falter. Once one of the warriors within the battle formation had either perished or received a mortal wound, it would lose all of its power.
Jayce could only watch on as those people died tragically at the hands of their enemies.
1…
3…
8…
12 formations were obliterated within a few minutes of each other, doing heavy damage to the human army.
While they had killed many more of their enemies, the fact that they were outnumbered by almost 10 times made it so that the feat had little effect on the overall battle.
“This is horrible…” Jayce uttered, seeing the devastation from his high viewpoint in the sky.
He could feel the horrifying Qi churn beneath him, giving him an indication of what kind of realm these people were in. It was clear that none of the beings below him were using mana, nor the system.
All these techniques were either from the Laws or utilized Qi as a source.
Sword and saber attacks, palms, flames, water, earth. The attacks were sent out, filling his vision with all sorts of colors and devastation and leaving a profound impact on his psyche.
Jayce believed that if he were given unlimited time, he could probably gain some insights into the laws which were being used in the battle below thanks to how comprehensive the users knowledge was.
Unfortunately, there were too many attacks, not to mention they were too powerful.
If he had been an ignorant child beforehand about power and cultivation, his eyes were now fully open. He no longer dared to be complacent about his own strength any longer.
When Rubick had told him he was not strong enough to take on those who had attacked him at the Summit Feast, a part of him was still reluctant to admit such a thing. However, now that he had seen true strength, there was no longer any doubt within his mind.
This had been a wake up call to his psyche, something that would be beneficial in his future pursuit of strength. This change in his attitude had already made the vision worth its weight in gold.
However, it seemed this was not the original intention of the sword, merely an added bonus.
Just as Jayce was about to continue looking for the sword, he finally saw Rubick join the front lines with 5 others in a battle formation. The dark sword was held tightly within his hand as he slashed it down with authority.
The moment the blade met its mark, Jayce saw the fallout from the strike in the form of a 50 meter long sword scar which obliterated all that was standing in its way.
The enemies who survived the initial impact were pushed back, yet they were covered in gruesome wounds. They stared at Rubick and his sword with fear.
Jayce’s eyes widened, almost popping out of his head. He gazed at the aftermath of the single sword slash and couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“W-What the f*ck kind of attack was that?”
