Chapter 228: Break out

Jayce could only watch on with gritted teeth as the impersonator walked away with his back turned, disregarding him. The sounds of battle and destruction mixed with screams entered his ears, bringing with it a sense of urgency.

He tried not to panic, however it was too difficult. His friends were all out there embroiled in battle against the unknown offenders, while he was stuck in this prison.

This was not the time to relax, he need to break out of this cage and go help. If anything were to happen to them, he would not be able to forgive himself in this life.

“Please hold on…” Jayce murmured, his face contorted with worry and anxiety.

Controlling the flow of his Qi, Jayce began to throw punches at the invisible cage with all of his might, intending to break through. However, as soon as his fists landed, it was as if he was punching a soft cloud.

The force was easily dispersed by the unknown field, robbing the strikes of their strength. He continued for a few minutes, yet nothing changed. Jayce had even resorted to using his critical strikes, yet they were just as easily negated.

“F*ck! You bastards!”

This time, Jayce was furious. Who the hell had intervened this time? Who was the “Them” that had created this prison and why did they do this?

If he was rational, he would already have the answer. Yet with the sounds of battle ringing in his head, it was hard to think straight. Anxiety gripped his heart, bringing his emotions to a boiling point.

Jayce took a step back and circulated his Qi. If he couldn’t break through with physical attacks, he had only one other method of attack.

Blazing flames sprung into existence over his body making it look as if he had been doused in gasoline before being ignited. The flames were wild, fueled by his negative emotions.

Anger, anxiety, confusion, all of these emotions served only to fuel the fire which covered his body like a searing blanket.

At the appearance of the flames, the air surrounding him began to twist and contort, giving off a high pitch screeching sound.

Jayce opened his eyes, staring in the direction that the man had walked. The usually calm and clear blue eyes were gone, replaced with an icy coldness despite the raging flames surrounding his body.

His fire greedily ate up the oxygen within the prison, forcing Jayce to take a deep breath and hold it. Yet he didn’t care. He continued to stare icily in the direction where his friends were fighting.

Even as the last bit of air was burnt up, the flames continued to burn fiercely, using his Inner Qi as fuel. After a few moments, he heard the sound of creaking and groaning from something under tremendous pressure.

CRACK

Right in front of his eyes, cracks began to appear out of thin air like spiderwebs. Soon enough, it was like he was staring at a shattered window pane.

Jayce’s expression did not change, he merely walked towards the cracks slowly, his gait filled with confidence. The moment his body made contact with the cracks, an almighty boom sounded.

The surrounding building was blown apart from the pressure of the prison shattering.

By burning up the air within the prison, Jayce had created a pressurized space within. The air had been so pressurized that it had caused the cage to contort, eventually being filled with cracks. He merely needed to tap the interior to break through and be freed.

The large boom was caused by the pressurized air being released all at once. The surroundings were almost leveled, as if a bomb had gone off in the city.

However, Jayce was not interested in these things. Now that he had escaped, he put all his strength into his legs and darted towards where the feast was being held.

As soon as he arrived in the Central Square his breath caught in his throat.

The once lively square was now destroyed, with blood and bodies strewn around the place. Buildings had collapsed, sending rubble dust and rubble into the streets.

Jayce’s gaze darted around the place, trying to look for his friends in all of the chaos. He then spotted Colin’s large frame on the ground, holding his shoulder in pain.

“Colin!” He quickly ran forward to his friend to check on him. However, his face stiffened the moment he got closer.

Colin turned his hazy eyes to Jayce and muttered, “Leader…”

His face was one of relief, as if just seeing that Jayce was okay, he was able to relax and leave the rest to him.

“Wake up! Colin!”

In any other circumstance, Jayce would have let Colin rest. However, the shoulder which Colin was holding onto was missing an arm, as if it had been torn straight out of its socket. He was bleeding, a lot.

Jayce began to panic, lifting his gaze in hopes of finding Lianna so she could heal Colin. After a few moments he finally saw another survivor who was walking around aimlessly.

“Oi! You, come here. Quickly!”

The man who seemed to be lost turned his head and seemed as if he had found his savior. He quickly ran over and was about to talk before suddenly seeing the state of the unconscious man in front of him.

Jayce summoned a shirt and bandages from his inventory, before plugging the wound. He then turned to the man and gave him instructions to keep pressure on the wound.

This treatment would probably stop Colin from dying of blood loss, but he was still in bad shape. Jayce needed to find Lianna quickly.

He stood up and began to look for her, praying inwardly that she was still okay. It was then that he saw a flash of light around the corner, drawing his attention.

“The teleportation array…”

Jayce sprinted forward and rounded the corner as fast as he could. Then he saw a couple of people walk into the array and disappear.

“Where the f*ck do you think you’re going!?” he screamed out.

There were four people remaining who had yet to walk into the teleportation array. At Jayce’s yell, they all turned around and stared in his direction.

It was only now that Jayce could see it. A woman who was unconscious within one of the escapees arms.

“Lianna?”
