Chapter 202: Path Forward
Leah held out her hand and opened her palm, showing a soft green glow that seemed to swirl in place. Jayce took a closer look, a frown forming on his face.
He could feel the profound power of Laws emanating from her palm, yet it felt vastly different from his own power. It was obvious that there would be some differences between his Law of Fire and the Law of Nature, but this extended beyond that.
It was as if the power was sluggish and unable to be fully utilized, like it was drunk or had been incapacitated by something.
Jayce reached out his hand slowly, his eyes focused on the motes of light. As his hand passed through the ethereal glow, there was no reaction, causing him to frown.
Keeping his hand in place, he gathered a small amount of internal Qi into his palm. The next scene almost caused the two to jump in fright.
The motes of light quickly gathered towards the Qi in Jayce’s palm. As if they were starved children who had finally been given some food, they greedily consumed the Qi, there once dim glow increasing exponentially.
Their aura began to grow, finally reaching a similar level to that of Jayce’s Law of Fire. Yet instead of destructive power, these motes of light gave off the power of Life itself.
Leah watched on in wonder as the scene played out in front of her. This was the Law of Nature that she had comprehended from this floor of the giant tree, there was no doubt.
Jayce let out a sigh, this experiment had proved his theory. While he was happy that he had figured out the issue, its consequences were far reaching.
Seeing the dejected look on his face, Leah felt a little anxious. She asked in a small tone, “What does this mean?”
“It means that while you still have mana, you likely won’t be able to use the Law of Nature even if you have comprehended it.”
“You also don’t have meridians, so even if you threw away your mana you would have no way of gaining inner Qi” Although the words weren’t pretty to hear, Jayce said them nonetheless.
They had just found out from Rubick’s musings that the Laws were the right path to strength, yet Leah could not use it while she still had mana in her body. She frowned, feeling a little bitter about the whole situation.
“Are you sure you need to reach a tier 4 class in order to produce meridians?” Leah asked, a tinge of hope painting her pretty features.
Jayce was about to nod, but he froze for a moment. Originally he had made such an assumption because he had in fact reached a tier 3 class in his past life, yet did not notice his meridians.
However, he was a swordsman and not a mage. Which meant that he wouldn’t have tried to circulate his mana, nor really pay attention to its flow. Jayce closed his eyes tightly, trying to remember bits and pieces of the past to try and confirm.
Yet no matter how much he wracked his brain, it was inconclusive. Suddenly, a tiny feeling of hope began to sprout inside his heart.
If the meridians were implanted in the body through the 3rd tier class upgrade, that meant that everyone would only need to reach level 60 instead of 80 before being able to take the Martial path.
When there was the threat of an all out invasion in 2 years hanging over their heads, this could be the difference between success and failure for the whole world.
Yet Jayce was reluctant to get his hopes up, just in case he was wrong.
“I skipped the 3rd tier class, so I’m not entirely sure. It would be best if they grew at the 3rd tier, but we will only know when the time comes. How far are you from level 60?”
Leah couldn’t help but feel a hint of excitement at his words, yet she tried to keep it to herself. “I’m level 60 and have already got my class upgrade quest.” She said with a smile.
“Excellent. What else do you need to complete?”
“Uhh. I need to tame a monster level 55 or above.” Leah answered meekly.
Jayce frowned a little. He had almost forgotten that Leah was a druid who could control nature and tame monsters.
“The Law of Nature should also help in that regard, as it has dominion over life and death. That’s only if the monster also does not practice it though.” With his hand on his chin, Jayce began to ponder.
If he had have known this piece of information, he would have spared one of the termites that he had exterminated a few hours ago. Unfortunately, they were all turned to ashes, becoming fertilizer for the soil.
Perhaps this tree also had something similar to the Draconic Panther Den further down? He was just hoping that they did not have Dragon blood, as these monsters were all arrogant, looking down on everything and everyone.
“Okay it’s settled, we’ll go deeper into the tree and try and find a suitable monster for you to tame. Once Lianna finishes her bout of enlightenment, we’ll also fill her in on our plans.”
Jayce laid out the plan which bore no complaints from Leah who seemed excited. While being possessed by the Dryad had not been pleasant, it had increased her levels significantly, shooting her up all the way to level 60.
If that were not the case then she would have likely had to waste a lot more time grinding, potentially wasting everyone’s time. Her gaze settled on Jayce in front of her, who once again went into deep thought.
A smile formed on her lips, before she turned to Lianna who was still deep in enlightenment. ’You really picked a good one sis. At least I won’t have to worry about you in the future.’
However in the next moment her smile faltered, an unfamiliar feeling creeping into her chest. ’Am I jealous?’
She shook her head and chuckled listlessly, ’I guess I’m just a fickle person.’ She admitted inwardly, feeling shame at her true feelings.
