Chapter 1278: Tasks
A headache tried to expand in Khan’s mind as soon as he uttered those words.
Ilman was relatively easy to handle but also extremely complicated. Khan could have the most heartfelt and genuine conversation with him and even reach a satisfactory conclusion, only for the Niqols to understand something entirely different.
However, the matter involved the Nele, and Khan hoped that Ilman’s relationship with Jenna would help his cause. Khan knew Ilman would protect her anyway. He just had to make sure Ilman extended that to her species as a whole.
Of course, that meant making Ilman understand that Jenna and he were an item, which Khan saw as one of the greatest hurdles he had ever faced.
“Let’s adjourn this meeting,” Khan ordered, abruptly standing up. “We’ll have more opportunities to talk before the departure, but let’s get down to business now.”
“I’ll keep an eye on the political situation and handle whoever is ready to negotiate,” Prince Thomas said, standing up. “We might be able to seal a few deals immediately.”
“I’ll contact the other Excellencies and noble families,” Alexander revealed, also standing up.
No one mentioned the actual trip since Garret had already updated the trio about it. Hence, the involved parties could prioritize their many respective tasks. That theoretically left Princess Rebecca without a job, but she knew how to keep herself busy.
Liiza had also stood up to follow Khan. Her hand was already holding his, but a chill ran down her spine when she sensed someone reaching for her right elbow.
“Niece,” Princess Rebecca called, smiling at Liiza. “The men will be busy for a while. I believe this is the perfect opportunity for our talk.”
Liiza showed a fake smile at Princess Rebecca before her wide, pleading eyes snapped at Khan. Yet, a kiss landed on her lips before she could compel him to help her, using her tactics against her.
“[It’s better if I talk with Ilman alone],” Khan whispered in the Niqols’ language. “[You know how he is with you, and we are both men].”
“[Khan, anyone but your Aunt],” Liiza begged, but Khan had already left her hand and had kneeled down to kiss her waist.
“[It will be fine],” Khan reassured, but noticing his Aunt’s smile, he added something, “[Probably].”
Liiza glared down at Khan, but he showed an idiotic smile, followed by a similarly idiotic statement. “[And look at the bright side. You can threaten my junk again once I return].”
“[I will freeze our hands together once you get back],” Liiza warned.
“[See]?” Khan laughed, straightening himself while kissing Liiza again in the process. “[Hold that thought while I’m away. I’ll come back soon].”
“[You never do],” Liiza snorted. “[Kiss me again and go, but beware of what you say. Ilman can’t keep secrets from me].”
“[I love you, too],” Khan chuckled, giving Liiza another quick kiss before departing with his Uncle and Grandfather.
Liiza followed Khan with her eyes even after the flat’s walls hid his figure. Still, she diverted her attention once the elevator brought him back to the structure’s surface.
“Rebecca,” Liiza said, mustering a fake smile while looking to her right, searching for the faintest weakness in the hand clinging to her elbow. “My husband might need some help, so-.”
Liiza couldn’t finish her line since she noticed a strange expression on Rebecca’s face. She didn’t know her well enough to read the meaning behind her façade, but her mana updated her on her melancholic, helpless, but reassured state.
“He never made those faces with the Solodrey girl,” Princess Rebecca sighed, meeting the white gaze shining on her face. “He almost looks like a proper kid again.”
The unexpected burst of heartfelt honesty left Liiza speechless. She had always been weak to that trait, but Princess Rebecca’s mana revealed a more respectable detail. Khan’s Aunt was pleased about that development.
“Thank you for bringing back my cute Nephew,” Princess Rebecca continued. “He was forced to grow up too soon. It’s nice to see he can still be childish like that with you.”
That earnest comment ended up tackling Liiza’s second weakness. Princess Rebecca was Khan’s ally even outside the political sphere, making Liiza lower her guard.
“He was like that when I met him,” Liiza revealed, diverting her gaze to lose herself in distant memories. “Despite all the pain he carried, he still joked around like an idiot.”
Liiza’s eyes abruptly widened, snapping toward Princess Rebecca again.
“Not that my husband is an idiot,” Liiza clarified. “I never once thought he was one.”
“You are so cute,” Princess Rebecca giggled. “Relax. You are my Nephew’s wife. It’s your prerogative to call him however you like.”
Princess Rebecca’s statement was genuine, and Liiza’s guard crumbled even further, allowing her to make a similarly honest comment.
“Khan is the biggest idiot in the galaxy,” Liiza scoffed, lowering her eyes, “As well as the strongest and most selfless man I have ever known.”
Liiza heaved a sigh, a faint smile broadening on her face while she revealed another personal memory. “He would always put me first and sacrifice himself to no end to spend more time together. I had to take away sex to make him agree to rest.”
Liiza’s eyes went wide again, but she kept them down now. The Niqols had a different idea of decorum, but sex talks with Khan’s Aunt still sounded a bit too much, especially since the two barely knew each other.
“Women have their weapons,” Princess Rebecca stated, seemingly pleased about that revelation. “Powerful men are often stubborn and arrogant, so we are completely justified in manipulating them. It’s for their own good.”
“Khan never looks out for himself,” Liiza snorted. “I have to take care of that. Even now, he hasn’t reverted to his old self yet, not completely, and he still struggles with his bad habits.”
“How is that going?” Princess Rebecca asked.
“It won’t be easy since he is so stubborn,” Liiza cursed. “I thought I had more time, but the Nak come first. I’ll work him good once he gets rid of his nightmares.”
“You are completely approved!” Princess Rebecca beamed, gently pulling Liiza’s elbow. “Why don’t we sit now? We have much to talk about.”
Liiza glanced at the hand on her elbow before focusing on Princess Rebecca, but the latter voiced an offer before she could.
“Let’s make a deal,” Princess Rebecca suggested. “You don’t run away again, and I’ll tell you how Khan was before the Second Impact.”
“He has no memories of that time,” Liiza pointed out, but her face couldn’t hide her interest.
“I’m one of the few people still alive who knows how he was,” Princess Rebecca claimed before heaving a sigh. “It’s such a pity. He used to be so cute.”
“He is still cute,” Liiza responded, rolling her eyes in defeat, “But hearing stories about him would compel me to stay.”
