Beast Tamer Ascension
Book 2: Chapter 80: The Awakening of the Ice Soul GuVol 2 Chapter 80: The Awakening of the Ice Soul Gu
In an instant, Lin Jing reached the frozen pool that the Divine Pine had mentioned.
The pool's surface was calm and mirror-like, with a thin layer of frosty mist rising gently from its depths. This mist hovered over the water, adding an ethereal charm to the scene.
Holding the Flame Dragon Carp, Lin Jing plunged into the icy pool. The deeper he went, the colder it became. However, the dropping temperature didn’t bother him. Not only did the warmth of the Flame Dragon Carp shield him, but his Ice Soul Physique also gave him exceptional resistance to the cold.
Bang—
Time seemed to blur. At some point, Lin Jing felt as though he had fallen from a heavenly pool. Water splashed violently as he landed heavily on the ground. The surrounding temperature underwent a drastic shift, growing so cold that even his Ice Soul Physique began to feel the chill.
Looking up quickly, Lin Jing saw that the pool's bottom had turned into a celestial pool above him. He now stood in a massive icy cavern. The walls were piled with frosty stones, and the biting cold seemed to pierce his very soul. As he ventured further, he felt the Ice Soul Gu, which was sealed by the Divine Tree, begin to stir faintly.
“Blub!!!”
The Flame Dragon Carp, which had been indifferent to the cold until now, began to shiver. Lin Jing promptly tossed it back into the frigid pool above, saying, “Stay in the water and train until you’re no longer afraid of the cold.”
“A descendant of the Fire Qilin scared of the cold? Ridiculous.”The Flame Dragon Carp shot Lin Jing a look that seemed to accuse him of ignoring the attributes that came with its lineage.
With the carp taken care of, Lin Jing exhaled a puff of frosty breath and surveyed the area. “Anyone below the Golden Core stage and without a special physique would freeze to death here.”
“Freezing to death would be the least of their worries. Even higher-level cultivators could suffer permanent damage if they lingered too long. Now, hurry and break the Ice Soul Gu’s seal. Let it absorb this extreme cold!”
A pinecone suddenly materialized and urged him on. Lin Jing nodded. “I’ll count on you to protect me, Senior. As for the formation you mentioned for dealing with the Yin Corpse Sect cultivators…”
“Don’t worry. If anyone from that sect finds their way here, I’ll ensure they don’t leave alive,” the Divine Pine replied confidently.
Reassured, Lin Jing closed his eyes and entered the sealed world in his mind. There, he saw the Ice Soul Gu tightly bound by the branches of a massive tree.
The Ice Soul Gu was a giant spider made entirely of ice and snow. As Lin Jing gazed at it, he couldn’t help but sigh.
“You’ve been sealed for so long… Though, to be fair, the Dragon-Phoenix Cavern Heaven hasn’t treated you poorly. You even broke through to the eleventh stage of Qi Refinement.”
“Let’s hope that when you reach Foundation Establishment, you’ll help me ascend to the twelfth stage. Thirteenth stage would be ideal!”
Crack.
With Lin Jing’s actions, the branches binding the Ice Soul Gu began to loosen. Its full form gradually emerged, and an influx of cold air surged from the outside world into Lin Jing’s body, which the Ice Soul Gu passively absorbed.
At the same time, the Ice Soul Gu emitted a steady stream of cold air. The two types of chill were distinctly different: one was the pure, natural cold of heaven and earth, while the other was a toxic cold converted by the Ice Soul Gu.
The latter was far more damaging to Lin Jing’s body. Fortunately, a golden Buddhist bead within him absorbed most of the sinister energy.
As the Ice Soul Gu freely absorbed the extreme chill, its cultivation was no longer restricted. Reaching Foundation Establishment was now only a matter of time. Meanwhile, Lin Jing decided not to remain idle. He retrieved a jar of Hundred Flower Immortal Honey gifted by the Hundred Flower Valley and a one-time-use jade slip of a secret art. Seizing this opportunity, he began practicing the Veil of Dissolution, aiming to further reduce his presence.
“Smells divine.”
The golden floral scent of the Hundred Flower Immortal Honey, one of the top ten spiritual treasures of the Little Wasteland, wafted through the air as Lin Jing opened the jar. Even the Ice Soul Gu, a creature that had long been indifferent to earthly delights, couldn’t help but twitch in response.
“That smells divine.”
A voice rang out, startling Lin Jing. It wasn’t the Divine Pine, nor was it the Pine Leaf Mouse or the Flame Dragon Carp. His expression darkened as he probed his surroundings cautiously.
Outside his body, in the snow-laden expanse, the Ice Soul Gu had awoken. The enormous, crystalline spider had shed its slumber.
Lin Jing was momentarily shocked. Wasn’t it supposed to remain dormant until after Foundation Establishment? Why had it awakened immediately after the seal was broken?
“Container, you smell divine,” the Ice Soul Gu said again.
“Turns out it was talking about you,” Lin Jing muttered, a vein throbbing on his forehead.
The Ice Soul Gu’s sudden awakening was completely unexpected. Furthermore, Lin Jing remembered that the top ten Rare Gu usually lost their memories upon reincarnation. This meant the Ice Soul Gu should be like a newborn. Yet, it already knew that Lin Jing was its host and was capable of telepathic communication. Its intelligence far surpassed that of the Pine Leaf Mouse or the Flame Dragon Carp.
“Let me have a bite,” the Ice Soul Gu said, beginning to crawl inside Lin Jing’s body. Breaking through its icy confines, it attempted to latch onto him like a bloodsucking beast. Alarmed, Lin Jing immediately restrained it with the power of their contract.
The Ice Soul Gu froze in place, perplexed. “Why are you stopping me?”
“You’re trying to eat my flesh and blood. Do you even need to ask?”
“But you’re using my power without offering anything in return. Isn’t that unfair?”
Lin Jing was stunned. Was this Ice Soul Gu… trying to reason with him?
“No means no. Stop eyeing my body.”
“Fine, then release this strange restraint. I’ll leave.”
Lin Jing remained silent.
“I said I’d leave, but you still refuse?”
“If you want me to work for you, we should cooperate fairly. Otherwise, you’re just exploiting me,” the Ice Soul Gu argued.
Lin Jing felt a chill. “You just awakened, didn’t you? This doesn’t sound like something a baby spider would say…”
If the Ice Soul Gu was this intelligent from birth, then the legendary bloodlines of the top ten Rare Gu were indeed extraordinary.
In comparison, the Flame Dragon Carp, with its Qilin lineage, seemed downright foolish at first.
“I don’t want to argue, but I sense strange restrictions on me. You must have tampered with me while I was asleep. I can’t attack you directly, so I have no choice but to talk things out,” the Ice Soul Gu admitted.
“If you don’t respond, I’ll just end myself. I can reincarnate, but without me, you’ll lose your chance to grow stronger.”
“Go ahead.” Lin Jing picked his ear nonchalantly.
The Ice Soul Gu fell silent. Lin Jing chuckled and added, “Don’t try to scare adults with childish threats. While I won’t let you feed on my flesh, I can offer you something else.”
The Ice Soul Gu’s mood seemed to lift. “I knew that fish in the pool was meant for me. I misjudged you. That container of mine really smells divine.”
