Awakening the Daily Intelligence System

Chapter 823: 413, North Suburb Police Station

Chapter 823: 413, North Suburb Police Station

Unlike the Death Judgment, the Transformational Judgment doesn’t require the Host to personally capture people. Instead, the system periodically gathers a group of eligible individuals to uniformly participate in a transformational game.

Just as Jack was figuring out the new system rules, the gate of the Los Angeles Police Academy appeared before him.

But at this moment, he still didn’t know that the investigation team was about to engage him in a long and fierce psychological game.

After returning to the police academy, Jack’s life returned to its former tranquility. He followed a structured schedule, attending classes when needed and resting when allowed. Life was as calm as water, aside from Oscar’s death being massively reported by the media, there were no other disturbances.

For three consecutive days, the system did not give him any new tasks, and even the investigation team seemed to have vanished without a trace, with no activity at all.

This made Jack suspicious, and he began to wonder whether the investigation team had noticed the clues he deliberately left behind.

However, on the fourth day, the Los Angeles Police Academy suddenly announced that all freshmen would start a half-year training. The school claimed it was to let students familiarize themselves with their future work environments sooner, and the training locations were randomly assigned by the academy.

This news made Jack keenly aware of something unusual.

As far as he knows, the Los Angeles Police Academy has never had a precedent of sending freshmen out for practical training this early. More critically, this sudden training was announced unexpectedly, right on the fourth day after he left clues.

If there wasn’t someone from the investigation team secretly pushing this, Jack would never believe it!

However, one thing he couldn’t figure out was how the police academy had over 1,300 freshmen this year. Even if the investigation team could monitor everyone, how could they precisely pinpoint who the Dark Law Enforcer is?

If the investigation team tried to find anomalies by observing everyone’s daily performance, in Jack’s opinion, such a method was utterly foolish. After all, it’s easy to hide the real self in front of strangers.

Nonetheless, apart from not being able to connect with Alicia Linder as expected, everything else was proceeding according to Jack’s plan.

Early the next morning, Jack dragged his suitcase and boarded the bus heading to the North Suburb of Los Angeles.

He couldn’t help but wonder whether the school leadership had something against him, as he was assigned to the North Suburb Police Station. That place is quite literally in the middle of nowhere.

The North Suburb is almost entirely a shantytown, where residents live at the bottom of society. It’s a complex area, where various illegal transactions often take place silently.

The North Suburb Playground where Serafina had taken him last time is under the jurisdiction of the North Suburb Police Station.

The bus took two hours to leisurely reach the destination. By then, the once crowded bus was empty except for Jack and another unfamiliar fair-skinned boy.

The two got off the bus and retrieved their luggage. Before they could regain composure, the previously leisurely bus roared away as if fleeing.

“Looks like we’re both quite unlucky.”

Watching the distant bus, the fair-skinned boy smiled bitterly and shook his head. Then he put down his luggage, solemnly extended his right hand, and introduced himself: “Hi, I’m Aix, a repatriated overseas Chinese, from the Public Safety class one.”

“Oh, hello, I’m Jack, from the Criminal Investigation class two.”

Jack also put down his luggage and shook Aix’s hand, introducing himself. Although he didn’t particularly like such overly friendly personalities, they were going to work together for half a year, and it wouldn’t be good to start off on the wrong foot.

“Let’s go, we ‘brothers in adversity’ should check out the place we’ll be working for the next six months.”

With that, Aix took the lead, pulling his suitcase towards the North Suburb Police Station.

Jack said nothing, pulling his suitcase behind Aix. After turning here and there, they finally found the fabled North Suburb Police Station.

However, the scene at the North Suburb Police Station was entirely different from what they imagined.

In Jack’s impression, a police station should be cold and quiet, with everything neat and orderly.

But the North Suburb Police Station before them was bustling, like a marketplace, with crowds of people coming and going. There were even several tables with people leisurely playing mahjong at the police station’s entrance.

The two were dumbfounded. If it weren’t for the police station’s sign, they would have wondered if they had gone to the wrong place.

Just then, a short and stout policeman ran out of the station. His short legs alternated swiftly, and the extra weight on his body jiggle with each motion.

The short and stout policeman ran up to them with a big smile and spoke with a thick western accent: “Ah, you two must be students sent by the Los Angeles Police Academy for training here, right? Come on, come on, follow me inside to rest.”

With that, the short and stout police officer led them inside the station while introducing himself: “I’m David Johnson, the Chief of the North Suburb Police Station. From now on, you can just call me Chief Zhang.”

The two nodded and said in unison: “Hello, Chief Zhang.”

Upon hearing Jack and Aix address him this way, David Johnson’s smile grew even brighter: “Good, good, young people are more sensible nowadays, much better than the rough fellows in the station.”

Then David Johnson noticed Jack and Aix were looking at the crowd at the station entrance with peculiar expressions, so he quickly explained: “Ah, it’s different here than in the city; the residents are mostly uneducated. Couples quarrel, someone loses a piece of tofu, and they all come to the station. But where do we find the time to handle such trivial matters? After advising them a few times and they still don’t listen, we just let them be. Unexpectedly, over time, they’ve turned this place into a chat spot, and we have no choice.”
