Atticus’s Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground
Chapter 975: RealizationAtticus's exploits had caused a huge amount of tension to develop between the other races and humans. This had an irreparable impact on humans all over Eldoralth, making life difficult for many, including Drill Sergeant Kosher.
He was in charge of leading the new human recruits, recruits that the other races would have ripped to shreds if given the chance.
Kosher didn't utter a word in response. While each drill sergeant oversaw the training of their respective recruits, Staff Sergeant Voren oversaw the entire operation. They all reported to him.
Regardless, as long as he hadn't been asked a direct question, Kosher was not obligated to respond to anything.
Voren shook his head slowly, fixing his eyes on the figures of Zoey and Kael before adding, "But I suppose they're nothing compared to him…"
He didn't seem bothered that Kosher hadn't responded.
There was a silence afterward, one that was broken only by the sound of the door parting and the instinctive reaction of the sergeants.
Their bodies straightened, turning tense and rigid, saluting the man who had just walked in. Even Voren was no exception, instantly stepping to the side.
The man was clad in the military's midnight blue, though his uniform had far more intricate details compared to the sergeants. On the side of his left shoulder was the insignia that signified his rank.
Rather than the silver stripes of the drill sergeants or the insignia of a staff sergeant like Voren, his was something far higher. The man had a smile on his face, one that was odd considering his hardened exterior. It was filled with intrigue more than anything. His presence pressed down on the room.
"Colonel!"
The sergeants greeted in unison.
"At ease," the Colonel nodded simply and walked closer toward the screens.
"To what do we owe this pleasure, Colonel Zenon?"
The Colonel was in charge of the entire training camp, and for such an important duty, only a paragon could handle such a task. A truly strong paragon.
The ranks of the military were as follows;
Recruit → Private → Corporal → Sergeant → Staff Sergeant → Sergeant Major → Warrant Officer → Lieutenant → Captain → Major → Lieutenant Colonel → Colonel → Brigadier General → Major General → Lieutenant General → General → High General → Grand Marshal
Listed from the lowest to the highest…
It was odd for Zenon to be here, but then again, what was a sergeant doing questioning a Colonel? A grandmaster questioning a paragon…
But Zenon showed no displeasure. He welcomed it, in fact. As an Evolari, he valued curiosity greatly, especially if it led to change.
"I'm curious about him,"
Those were the only words needed. He had come here to see the human Apex. The boy who had defeated multiple apexes and won the Nexus. The boy who rewrote history, being the first human to defeat the superior races.
The youngest paragon in the history of Eldoralth.
The sergeants couldn't blame him. They were all waiting to see the same boy.
Unfortunately, he, along with the other apexes, were running late.
Zenon's eyes glinted as the screen flickered, showing glimpses of the impending battles that were about to unfold.
As Zoey, Kael, and many of the division leaders raced toward the peak of the mountain, defeating anyone in their path, the terrain narrowed further. Soon enough, the inevitable happened.
The powerful clashed.
Zoey's streaking figure came to an abrupt stop, her cold amethyst eyes fixed on the form of a muscular youth whose entire being radiated an intense aura of negation.
A Nullite. A strong one.
He gazed at Zoey with intrigue. She didn't stink, at least, not as much as the others. Her mana was negligible at best, and instead, a calmer energy coursed through her veins.
"You don't stink as much as the others," his voice was cold and detached.
His gaze narrowed as he flexed. "But you still have some filth in you. Filth I will purge."
His aura exploded, the earth cratering as his weight intensified.
On another part of the mountain, Kael stood facing a boy with a crimson, feral expression, radiating a bloodlust so intense that the metallic stench of blood filled the air.
Zoey didn't respond in words. In fact, if he hadn't spoken so fast, she would have already attacked.
It was a waste of time.
She became a streak of light, blinding purple colliding with pitch black, a shockwave of monumental proportions erupting.
On another part of the mountain, Kael stood facing a boy with a crimson, feral expression, radiating a bloodlust so intense that the metallic stench of blood filled the air.
It was the same Vampyros boy who had almost attacked Nate before Kael intervened.
"It seems I got lucky today," the boy said with a smile so wide it was shocking his face hadn't torn apart. His fangs were fully extended, his delight apparent.
However, his eyes abruptly constricted in the next instant.
'Where?…'
Kael was gone.
A primal, bone-deep sense of danger shot through the Vampyros boy's body like a lightning strike. Instinct screamed louder than thought. His muscles tensed, and he shifted, just in time.
A gleaming blade sliced through the air, carving the exact space where his head had been a heartbeat before. The speed was blinding. The intent was lethal.
But there was no respite.
Before the Vampyros boy could fully regain his footing, Kael was already there.
His movements were a blur, a fusion of steel and crimson aura.
Eight swords danced in his hands, but they moved with such terrifying synchronicity it felt like one monstrous weapon.
The first sword came from the left. The second already drove for his ribs.
The third slashed toward his throat. The fourth blade struck from above like a thunderclap.
The fifth and sixth sliced in from opposite angles. The seventh sword lashed out low. The eighth spun behind him like a serpent, aiming for his spine.
Each attack came faster than the last, a relentless onslaught that left the Vampyros boy utterly overwhelmed, his superior reflexes and blood manipulation struggling to keep pace with the sheer ferocity of Kael's assault.
With no mana, the ability of the Vampyros to control blood outside of their bodies was lost. Mana was the connection needed to manipulate another's blood.
His crimson eyes, once cold and condescending, were now wide with utter shock.
The human recruits erupted.
Their cheers exploded, earth-shattering, shaking the very ground beneath them. They screamed Kael's name at the top of their lungs, their voices filled with pride and adrenaline.
But then… the screens flickered.
At first, it seemed like a technical glitch, a brief disturbance. But the air grew heavier, and a strange, unsettling stillness swept over the crowd.
It was as if every single onlooker instinctively knew… something was coming.
The screens stabilized. And what they showed sent a cold chill racing down the spines of every human recruit.
The empty skies… but not for long.
From the horizon, multiple airships sliced through the sky like blades through silk.
One after another, they flew in, approaching the mountain.
Then, the hatches opened.
From the rear of each airship, the crowd's collective gaze locked onto the figures that emerged, walking with an unnatural, terrifying calm down the extended ramps.
They didn't rush.
They didn't need to.
The realization hit them like a thunderclap.
The Apexes of the other races were joining the competition!?
