Chapter 1311: Ranks
“Is there a reason you spared their god, supreme ruler?”
Atticus turned towards Oberon as he asked. The others fixed their eyes on him. From the inquisitive stares, it was obvious they all wondered the same.
It was very unlike Atticus to spare an enemy, especially one who tried to kill him.
“He’s useful.” Was all Atticus said. Though they were his closest aides, Atticus still wanted to keep the revival a secret.
The only people present who knew were Whisker and Ozeroth. Not even Magnus knew that he planned on reviving his wife.
Though it pained him, he had chosen to keep the fact from Magnus too. The last thing he wanted was the man getting desperate and doing something that would get him killed.
No one asked anything after that. It was clear Atticus didn’t want to give details, and none amongst the Eldorians dared to press. Ozeroth and Whisker already had an inkling of why he spared the god, so they kept silent.
“Y-your eminence.”
It was at that moment the hesitant voice of Kancilot came from the ground. Atticus turned his gaze down and set eyes on Kancilot and his remaining circle members.
The king had an intense flush on his face, and his eyes were filled with shame. Behind him, the circle members all wore the same expressions, shock and disbelief.
Each of them, especially Lancaster, had been shocked at what their king had just told them. Never in their lives would they have anticipated that their king would bend the knee to another.
Lancaster glanced at his friend. He could see how Kancilot’s shoulders slumped down as though burdened by so much weight.
‘It must have taken everything he had. He did it for us,’ he realized. He suddenly felt a wave of guilt hit him as he saw their king bow and sink to one knee in respect of the child hovering in the air.
Feeling heavy eyes on them, the circle members snapped out of their thoughts and also joined their king.
“Your eminence,” they echoed in unison, a little too awkward. Atticus only nodded.
‘I need a way to bind them,’ he suddenly realized a problem. Their energy system in this world was tied to mana, and each one of the inhabitants had mana cores.
But without mana cores, there was nothing for mana contracts to bind. A brief scan was all he needed to see that Kariot operated on a different power system, not mana.
“I’ll teach you something interesting later.”
He glanced towards Whisker and caught his wink. It seemed as though the man understood the situation.
As Atticus nodded, Whisker suddenly yawned, earning baffled stares from the others.
“Well, that’s that,” he said, indulging in a long stretch. “This ascension’s been fun! Wake me when we reach the Verge.”
He vanished before anyone could say anything.
“That lazy fool!”
Ozeorth shouted. He seemed upset that Whisker had dared leave without him.
“See you later, Bond. Others.” He too waved before vanishing.
Atticus then excused the others and addressed the kneeling warriors.
“You’ll move with me until I find how to assure your loyalty.” His words were blunt. He didn’t try to hide the fact that he planned on binding them.
Atticus didn’t trust them yet, and no one could blame him. Though he was now the god of their world, they were under no volition to obey him.
Even if he was sure the king wasn’t lying, for all he knew this was their plan from the outset, gain his trust and somehow sabotage the world.
Regardless of their feelings, Atticus had every intention of binding them to avoid any future stupidity.
It was an insult to them. They were warriors of Kariot. To them, their words were stronger than any oath or bind. Still, they swallowed down their dissatisfaction and nodded.
In a blink, they vanished and appeared on the continent Atticus used for training.
Atticus could feel another world separate from theirs, and he assumed that it was the world of Kariot. It was somehow moving alongside them in the ascension path.
‘I’ll merge when we reach the middle planes,’ Atticus decided.
Oberon had already informed him that he and the rest of the Eldorians would roam around the world, vast as it was, just in case there were any more surprises popping up.
And without another word, he left the warriors to their devices and began meditating.
A dome surrounded the entire continent, plus his will still engulfed the entire world. There wasn’t anything the warriors would do that he wouldn’t know.
Atticus allowed his thoughts to focus on his newly increased will. His will, now enveloping the world, allowed him to see and feel all at all times.
But even he had to admit that it was a lot of information. Not so much that he couldn’t handle, though.
Atticus’s intelligence had always been off the charts. In his head, he could split his mind into multiple parts to deal with the influx of information.
This way, he could be alerted of anything just in case, and he wouldn’t have to stop his everyday activities.
‘Now, my will power,’ Atticus pondered seriously. Whisker had explained how the will power system worked in the mid planes.
It was more complicated than any other power system he knew, and there was a wave of uncertainty in the ranks.
What this meant was that a low ranked individual could win against a higher rank. It had been incredibly confusing.
As Whisker had said, the ranks were divided into three categories, each with their own ranks: Mastery. Thickness. Vastness.
Mastery was related to how far one had gone in mastering their wills. It also played a major role in their strength, no doubt.
But for this, Atticus had reached the Impose stage, still leagues away from reaching the Manifestation stage.
The next was Thickness. Thickness was, well, the thickness of one’s will. It reflected how unshakable, condensed, and overwhelming one’s will was. It was divided into eight ranks:
Flicker. Tempered. Forged. Bulwark. Bastion. Dreadcore. Titanheart. Eternal.
And lastly, Vastness. This represented reach, influence, and expansive control of one’s will.
It wasn’t just about how far one’s will stretched, but how many things it could affect simultaneously and how deeply it permeated concepts.
From Whisker’s explanation, the beings at the top of the Verge, especially the faction head, had a vastness that spread across the entire plane, from the Crown down to the Span and then Verge.
Vastness, like Thickness, was also divided into eight ranks:
Whisper. Reach. Field. Dominion. Horizon. Veinbound. Epochal. Eclipse.
