Tang Shaoyang easily figured out what situation he was in. It did not take someone smart to figure this out, and it seemed Erna also realized what happened. The girl did not expect her action would be used against her.
They killed the four mercenaries to smear Lady Akhor’s name, a first step if they, or whoever was behind these people, wanted to take the town from Lady Akhor. One of them was beaten black and blue, and all the wounds remained, clearly lacking in an attempt to save the guy because they did not use potion for him. The remaining three had their faces turned blue, clearly dying from poison. That was a good way to kill those three since a lot of people witnessed the three leave the tavern.
All of that was just a guess in his head, but he was inclined to believe so because of the three people they poisoned. Or maybe someone else tried to pit the mercenary against Lady Akhor. Two people benefited from this. The current Commander who was under Lady Akhor’s command because he would inherit the position if Lady Akhor was kicked out from the city.
Or The third son of Archduke Devereux. That was right, that person was in this town in the guise of helping the town’s defense. He brought his own army, which only received his command. This might be an act of vengeance for the humiliation, left behind to fight Giant and Orc rather than marrying him. Or maybe it was both of them.
The last key figure was the mayor and also the biggest merchant in this town who controlled the town’s eighty percent of goods. It was least likely because the mayor did not really have an army under his name, just a personal guard of less than two hundred. Infighting was the last thing he wanted to do when the Giant and Orc invasion loomed over the town. He would lose his business if the town fell.
“It seems like telling them that I am Lady Akhor’s guest is not a good idea. They tried to use it against your lady, maybe weakening her influence on the people in this town if this spread. What do you want to do?” Tang Shaoyang whispered to the servant.
Edelmir was followed by his subordinates whom he did not know. The reason he knew Edelmir was because one of his shadows found the guy. He thought they would target the servant, but he was wrong. Edelmir had his eyes on him, not Erna.
“It makes sense, Lady Akhor’s guest has more impact than Lady Akhor’s servant. They think Lady Akhor can easily get rid of you as punishment to satisfy the masses, but it’s different for me because I am her guest. They think I am some sort of important guest,” Tang Shaoyang muttered for Erna to hear, reading his enemy’s plan.
“I would say they are quite daring if they try to frame a royalty. I guess you have to be that bold if they have a big ambition, or maybe your lady has lost a favor from her family?”
Erna finally snapped as her calm demeanor broke out into a frown, but she did not give the response that Tang Shaoyang wanted, “I have sent a message to Lady Akhor. Don’t do anything until then.”
“Unless you can guarantee me that this thing doesn’t take much of my time, then I will follow your instructions. But if you can’t guarantee it, then I will resolve it myself,” Tang Shaoyang replied with a whisper, “The thing I hate the most is to be used by someone else for their scheme.”
“I have messaged the Butler when we clashed with the Wicked Blades. The help will come soon, just don’t do anything that could make things worse for Lady Akhor. Or else, I will not be so kind anymore with you anymore even though you are Lady Akhor’s guest,” Erna warned Tang Shaoyang.
Edelmir raised his finger, pointing at Tang Shaoyang, “You! You killed my people!”
The situation unfolded as Tang Shaoyang predicted. These people chose him as a target instead of a servant. Even though Erna beat the mercenary, they would claim he was the one who poisoned the remaining three.
“I will give you a chance to resolve the issue then. Don’t let me talk with him or anyone else, or I might snap up and twist his neck,” Tang Shaoyang smiled at Erna.
The servant let out a sigh as she stepped forward in front of Tang Shaoyang, “He didn’t kill your people. There are a lot of witnesses to what happened to your people, and they came out of the tavern alive, Sir Edelmir.”
“Shut up! You are just a servant! You don’t have the right to talk to me!” Edelmir yelled at Erna, keeping an enraged facade as a crowd started to gather.
“Your Lady’s guest murdered my people in broad daylight. We can’t accept this! I want justice for my people!” He raised his voice, ensuring the crowd heard his voice.
Erna lost her cool as she let anger take control of her, “Don’t you dare slander Lady Akhor, Edelmir!” She was no longer courteous since the opposite party slandered her master, “Lady Akhor’s guest did not kill your people. There are a lot of witnesses in the tavern that saw your people leaving the tavern while drunk!”
“That’s your story, but my witness saw Lady Akhor’s guest poisoned my people,” Edelmir sneered, pointing at the three dead people who had turned purple, “Look! This is the proof. We tried to use the antidote, but no antidote worked on them. Why does Lady Akhor’s guest bring a lethal poison with an antidote that’s not sold in the market?”
Edelmir’s words were smooth as if he had prepared for this moment even though this was just an impromptu scheme. This was not planned because Tang Shaoyang just arrived today. He put his emotion in his words, the anger for losing his people, and regret that something like this happened.
Erna was about to refute the accusation. If she let this out, the crowd might be convinced by Edelmir, and it was just a matter of time until Lady Akhor lost the people’s favor. However, Edelmir beat him to it as the mercenary commander continued with a remorseful expression.
“I know we had a disagreement a few days ago, but we can talk it out instead of killing each other. The Giant and The Orc will soon invade the town. We must prioritize the town and people’s safety before anything else! We can’t fight among ourselves!”
The murmur from the crowd was getting louder as the crowd agreed with the mercenary commander and sympathized with the mercenary for losing their people. Whether it was a lie or not, the mercenary commander convinced some people that he was telling the truth.
“We want justice for the dead or the mercenary will leave the town!” Edelmir sheathed out his sword and raised his voice further.
It was then echoed by his people, saying “We want justice!” that it became a chant that echoed in the town. Without a doubt, it attracted more people as the crowd got nosier. Some of them followed the chant.
“We want justice!” “We want justice!” “We want justice!”
Those people who followed the chant were of two types. First, it was the people who sympathized with the dead even though they had not confirmed the truth. Second, it was the people who were scared that the mercenary would leave the town. They were afraid that they would lose the town without the mercenary.
The chant then changed from “We want justice” to “life for life!”. They wanted Tang Shaoyang dead, including the crowd that followed the chant. This would put Lady Akhor in a tough situation if the mercenary gained the support of the people.
If Lady Akhor executed Tang Shaoyang, she would be killing the innocent and might lose her ally. If she did not follow the crowd, then she would lose the people’s favor. No matter what, Lady Akhor would suffer a loss in this situation. It was a great plan, at least, Edelmir thought so.
However, Tang Shaoyang remained unbothered despite the uproar around him. He crossed his hands on the chest, waggling his right foot. He wanted to see what Erna prepared for this.
“It seems like you are all talk, Erna,” Tang Shaoyang said as he saw Erna crack under the pressure. She was shaken and at a loss as to what to do in the situation. The servant did not even try to refute Edelmir anymore. That would make them look bad in front of the people. These people would take it as if Edelmir was telling the truth because of her silence.
“Alright, time out, Erna,” Tang Shaoyang shook his head and pulled the servant back, “I will resolve this my way.”
He stepped forward and looked Edelmir in the eyes, “I don’t need to use poison if I want to kill them, Edelmir. That’s your mistake.”
He turned toward the crowd and shouted, “Shut up! Your voices are annoying!” At the same time, Tang Shaoyang released his aura. Like a dam got broken, his aura flooded the town.
The surrounding crowd who chanted “life for life” immediately passed out because of the aura. They all fell to the ground, unconscious when the aura hit them like a flood. Not just these people, Edelmir’s subordinates, even the Demi-God Rank also fell to the ground, only a few managed to stay awake.
Even Edelmir fell on his knees. The mercenary commander had his eyes widened in shock when the aura hit him. The terrifying aura lasted for a few seconds before disappearing. He would say the aura was not real, but the fact that hundreds of people on the ground told him everything was real.
“Wake up!”
Lady Akhor’s guest shouted once more, and this time, instead of like a flood, it was more like a nudge, a shock that woke everyone up. That was when he realized there was something above him.
Edelmir looked up and found floating swords, thousands of swords. The sword was made of energy, black-red in color, and all the swords were pointing down, aiming at all who were on the ground. His face instantly paled in fear, and his eyes shook, terrified.
He then heard the sound of footsteps and snapped out. Lady Akhor’s guest was in front of him, looking down at him while he was on his knees. The man asked him a question.
“Do you think I need to use poison to kill your people?”
