Death and Lust

I sprinted toward the building, but the difference in speed between the creature and me—more precisely, our difference in jumping ability—was too great.

[Dodge!]

Without even checking behind me, I rolled to the side at Artemis’s warning.

Boom!

At the same time, the massive body slammed into the spot where I had just been. The impact was so powerful that the shockwave disrupted my stance.

I quickly got up and started running again, feeling the creature’s hand swipe at my back. It missed by a hair’s breadth, but the unpleasant gust of wind cut into my neck.

Thud! Thud!

I could hear the sound of cars bouncing off each other as they were hit by the mutant that chased me in a straight line. Eventually, a car flying from behind collided with the sedan in front of me, blocking my path and forcing me to crash into it and stop.

[Move aside!]

Crash!

Without a moment to catch my breath, I dodged again as the creature charged past me like a bull with a red flag in its sights. The destructive charge shredded the sedan like paper and sent it flying dozens of meters.

“Raaaargh—!” The mutant roared in anger, perhaps frustrated from missing its target again.

Just a little further. I was almost at the building.

[Get down!]

I flattened myself against the ground, and a car flying from behind skimmed over my back.

Thud~ Thud~ Crash!

After bouncing twice, the car crashed horizontally into the entrance of the building and fell to the ground. In the distance, I could hear the now familiar sound of the creature leaping again.

Boom!

Without needing to hear Artemis’s warning, I rolled to the side in a burst of movement.

Grab—

“Ugh.” But this time, I was too slow to escape. The creature had caught me by the ankle.

“Raaaargh—!” It was clearly enraged by all the trouble I had caused. The beast roared right in my face, as if planning to vent its fury before killing me. My eardrums ached, but those two seconds saved my life.

“Thanks, you stupid beast!”

Bang!

When dozens of lead pellets tore through its throat from the inside, even that tough creature couldn’t withstand it. In the brief moment it let go of me to howl in pain, I dashed toward the building and leaped over the car blocking the entrance. Then, I quickly tossed a flashbang and a tear gas grenade into the entrance before retreating further inside.

Boom!

A loud explosion echoed shortly after, followed by the sounds of the creature’s roars and the destruction of the car. Moments later, I could hear it coughing violently.

Thud—! Thud—!

Finally, the vibrations of its heavy footsteps grew more distant. I had survived.

“Those subway security robots were nothing. I really thought I was going to die this time.”

[As you said, surviving a battlefield is about making the right decisions. You did well.]

“Haa…”

Even after several deep breaths, my heart wouldn’t calm down.

“That thing was a real monster. The pressure was completely different from dealing with human-sized ones, no matter how hideous they were.”

When I placed a hand on my chest, my heart was pounding like it was about to explode. Even my hands were trembling.

[It’s natural to be afraid when facing something like that. You fought incredibly well. You didn’t panic and always made the best possible decisions.]

Artemis’s voice was filled with genuine encouragement.

“I know. I was just reflecting on it. To be honest, I was lacking tension, probably because of my pride as a veteran soldier who has been through everything.”

So far, I have been using my military experience and skills to navigate this situation. But now, I’m beginning to realize that this battlefield is different—the enemies and the circumstances are different.

I took a short breath to gather my thoughts. “Alright, that’s enough of this gloomy talk. I should get moving.”

[Be careful. There are some infected on the second floor of the building.]

I didn’t know how far the mutant had gone. Going outside right now would be dangerous.

“If we have to stay here for a while, we should clear out any threats. Plus, I want to check the supervisor’s office. That guy was always looking out for himself, so he might have left something useful behind.”

I headed toward the second floor and checked the PDA minimap. Three entities were detected, but they were all separated.

With the first one, I waited around the corner of the corridor to time my attack, and then swung the axe.

Thud!

The creature collapsed with a splattering sound, and I delivered a final blow to make sure it was dead. The second one was in the women’s restroom, apparently having failed to escape through the window.

“Screeeech—!”

It was wearing a mini skirt, revealing its black panties and coffee-colored stockings. I couldn’t tell what the woman looked like, but her waist and her stylish clothes suggested she had once been very attractive. She likely maintained a beautiful figure not just through diet but also regular exercise. Before all this happened, she must have been quite popular at the office.

"Haa… After narrowly escaping death, all sorts of thoughts are running through my mind." Feeling my face heat up, I rubbed the bridge of my nose.

They say that when a person faces a life-threatening situation, their libido increases—seems like that's spot on. It's not like this is my first time experiencing it.

Meanwhile, the infected creature was thrashing about, screeching, but it was stuck in the narrow window with no way to move forward. So, I decided to help it out a bit.

“Eek?”

The creature struggled even more violently when it realized someone had grabbed its lower body, but it was futile. From the start, I had securely grabbed both legs at once, holding them firmly in place. Even though it was an infected creature, it was still female. There are limits to its strength.

I pushed it out of the window with force.

Riiip— Buttons scraped against the window frame, making a loud noise as they scattered across the bathroom floor.

“Eek!”

As I kept pushing, the female infected finally passed through the window and fell outside. In that brief moment, the torn pieces of her blouse, the bra visible beyond them, and the feet wrapped in coffee-colored stockings were all imprinted in my mind like a snapshot as she fell.

Thud!

She landed headfirst, and it looked like her neck snapped—she just twitched, unable to get up.

[Hey.]

“I know, I know.”

Artemis was aware of everything—my hormone changes, heartbeat, blood flow. She must have noticed my state.

“I’m not getting distracted by a monster or anything. It’s just that my body’s reacting on its own after coming so close to death.”

[I’m not here to criticize you. After all, you’re the one enduring all the pain and danger in this place and pushing forward.]

“That's rather lenient of you.”

[Well, I’m fully aware that you’re under tremendous stress. Your breathing, hormone levels, and nerve responses are all reaching their limits. Even if you behave irrationally at times, I can understand it to some extent.]

The last infected was standing in front of the supervisor's office.

“Eeeek!”

Since the area was open, I had no choice but to face it head-on. The problem was that the creature was wearing the same riot gear as me. I wasn’t sure if one of the infected guards had made it this far or if it had been the supervisor’s bodyguard before turning into that thing.

I had already used up quite a bit of my shotgun ammo, and I wasn't sure if it would be effective against it. Using an axe in close combat was also risky.

Thwap!

A thin, sharp net flew out, wrapping around the creature tightly and knocking it down.

“This is why I brought this.”

Even though it wriggled on the floor like a caterpillar, there was no way it could break free. I stepped on its helmet, forcing its head back and exposing its neck.

“Eeeek!”

Slash!

With two swings of my axe, the creature's head was severed, and silence settled over the building. Above me, I noticed the door with the plaque "Worker Supervisor" hanging on it.

“Well then, let’s see what we’ve got here. Given the state of this place, I doubt he's still alive.”

Creeeak—

The doorknob was broken. I pushed the half-open door wider and stepped inside, only to be left speechless.

To get straight to the point, the supervisor was already dead. His head was so mangled that it was unrecognizable, but I definitely remembered that obese body. He was naked, slumped in a large, plush executive chair. In front of him was a fallen android dressed in a business suit. Specifically, it was a first-generation sex android. From the suit to the tie, stockings, and shoes, everything was coordinated in black. Its head was also smashed.

“Even in the middle of all this, he had this thing in his office?”

It seems the worker supervisor had given up on both escaping and leading his subordinates, choosing instead to indulge in one last pleasure. I noticed a PDA on the desk, and when I picked it up, there was a video record of the last thing he had filmed.

Click—

“Damn it, if I'm going out, I might as well go out with a bang! Wahahaha!”

“Eeeek!”

The video showed the worker supervisor with the android's head buried in his lap, while infected creatures banged on the door, trying to break it down. The man was so fat that, from his perspective, there wasn’t much to see beyond his belly. Judging by its oral functions, the android looked like a later model among the first-generation products.

How do I know this? Well… let’s just say there was a time when I looked into these things extensively.

“Okay! Almost there! Hurry up! Faster! They’re gonna break down the door! Suck harder, you bitch!”

Crash! Finally, the door broke down.

“Yessss! Aaahhh! I’m comiiiinngg!!!”

The video ended with the triumphant cry of his climax as the infected creatures rushed in.

“I knew the guy wasn’t right in the head, but I didn’t realize he was this much of a lunatic.”

[I’ve deleted it from my memory. I don’t know what video it was, so don’t bring it up again.]

I was genuinely envious of her.

I searched the office quickly, but there was nothing useful to be found. I had hoped to find a hidden weapon or something like that, but no luck. I mean, what could you expect from a man who, despite being in a position of power, threw everything away just to enjoy one last moment of pleasure?

“So, what now? There’s no guarantee that mutant won’t jump out again on our way to the destination, no matter how long we wait here.”

If it jumps out suddenly while I’m walking, it’s over. Of course, staying here would just mean a slow death.

[I have a good idea.]

“What is it?”

[Let’s go through the sewers. If we take that route, we should be able to reach the destination safely.]
