Chapter 3645: Accept It
And something did indeed happen. Out of nowhere, a flash of light appeared in the distance. It illuminated the surroundings, quickly soothing that feeling of despair everyone was having.
"The exit!"
"Finally!"
"Let’s go!"
Rifindio, Royer, and Elsie obviously wanted to do the same thing. However, they were still slightly under control of their emotions, so they noticed Rean, Roan, Kentucky, and Celis didn’t move.
The only ones who advanced in the light’s direction were Lindiho, Werkel, Cafantrie, and Grititi.
"A-Aren’t we going?" Royer asked, doing his best to hold back.
Roan shook his head, though. "Think about it a little, and you also wouldn’t want to go after that light."
"What do you mean?" Rifindio asked this time.
Rean explained. "Everyone finally snapped out or is close to it. They couldn’t deal with this situation anymore. And yet, just as they were at the peak of their misery, that ’exit’ over there appeared. Say, don’t you find it way too convenient?"
Roan turned around, ignoring the light. "Let’s go."
Royer, Elsie, and Rifindio found it hard to ignore the light, especially seeing the others going after it. Still, they knew their best choice was to follow the twins’ group, so they turned around, walking back into the darkness.
"Wait!" It was then that a voice came from behind, someone running after them. It was Werkel, much to the others’ surprise.
Roan didn’t stop, but he continued to walk slowly, so Werkel easily caught up to them.
Rean smiled at Werkel, finding it funny. "Well, well, well... senior Werkel, why are you here? Shouldn’t you be running after the exit?"
Werkel looked behind, and the light of the exit grew weaker fast. The darkness in this place swallowed the light, so even that exit’s light was easily covered. "I won’t lie. I want more than nothing else to go after that light right now. But..." he glanced at this group. "The fact you bunch haven’t gone after it and instead ignored the exit tells me that that light isn’t the exit we were expecting."
Roan glanced at him, nodding. "I commend you for not losing your head like the others. However, we don’t know anything. We just found the appearance of that ’exit’ way too suspicious. It happened just as you were losing your heads. But then again, it might actually have been the real exit as well. Don’t come after us later, complaining we made you select the wrong choice. Before you lose sight of that light, you should think well if you truly want to leave it."
Werkel heard Roan and looked at Rean, who didn’t seem the least bit tired anymore. "Y-You weren’t really out of Divine Energy, were you?"
Rean didn’t deny it. "I’m pretty fine. Sorry for testing you."
Werkel circulated his Divine Energy around his soul, soothing that sensation of despair that continued to assault his mind. That was why he was able to control himself in the last moment and not run after the light. Of course, the twins’ group didn’t go after it, so that was another reason for him to give up the light.
Finally, the light of the ’exit’ disappeared completely, and they were all enveloped by the darkness once again. Werkel couldn’t help but rub his arms, and so did Rifindio. Royer and Elsie didn’t have real bodies, but they weren’t feeling any better.
"R-Rean, can you use your Light Sphere again?" Werkel quickly asked.
Yet, Roan stopped him. "No, he will not use that again."
"Why?!" Werkel was taken aback. Isn’t Rean fine?
"It’s a test," Roan answered. "I believe the only way to find a real exit is to accept the Darkness of this region."
"Th-Then, shouldn’t you have done it earlier? Why wait until things grew this crazy?" Royer was the one to ask now. "Grititi, Lindiho, and Cafantrie already lost their minds there. We could have prevented it."
"It’s not that simple," Rean helped Roan explain. "Simply entering this darkness and staying in here for a few days wouldn’t have made any difference. You have to experience the effects, and on top of that, you must accept it. Simply put, if we had thrown ourselves into this darkness before we could feel its real effects, nothing would have happened."
"Once again," Roan insisted, "This is just a theory. We might be wrong, and anyone is free to leave if they feel like it. If not, just stay close and don’t lose sight of each other with your Divine Senses."
Werkel tried to calm down. He couldn’t see the light of the ’exit’ anymore, so he didn’t really have much of a choice. He could create some light if he wanted, but he wouldn’t do anywhere near as well as Rean. And if they were right, creating some light might keep him locked in this place for longer instead.
*ZOM!*
Suddenly, they felt a burst of Divine Energy and chaotic elements passing by them, almost forcing them out of the ground. They held to each other, making sure they wouldn’t get separated. It only lasted a few seconds, and then everything returned to normal.
"What was that?!" Rifindio was the first one to talk.
"It came from the direction Lindiho and the others left... that ’exit’ light," Rean confirmed. It hadn’t been long since they left, so it was still easy to tell what was the direction of the ’exit’ from earlier.
No one saw Werkel’s bitter smile. Yes, he could tell the burst came from that direction, too. They walked quite a bit far already, and yet, the burst almost sent them flying just now. He could already imagine what kind of explosion or similar situation happened back there. It definitely wouldn’t be something he could survive.
Things didn’t end there, though.
*Rumble...*
The Laws of Darkness... and the extra ’spice’ that slowly made the experts lose their minds, suddenly concentrated many times. The twins’ group was forced to immediately stop, including the twins.
*Ugh...*
Werkel was the first one to receive its effects, and he felt like his entire body was about to freeze. He trembled nonstop, even though the temperature hadn’t changed at all.
Rifindio, Royer, and Elsie were just slightly better, but they wouldn’t last long in that situation either.
"I... I want to leave..."
"We need to get out of here!"
"Rean, use your skill again!"
Rean narrowed his eyes. Even he didn’t expect things to deteriorate that fast. Could it be because they weren’t caught in the previous trap, so the situation was worsened by the region itself? In the end, he sighed and decided to use his Major Laws of Light and Light Element to create another Sphere of Light to illuminate the surroundings and alleviate the situation.
However, Roan stopped him. "Don’t do that."
Right after, he sat down and spoke to everyone. "All of you, just sit. Stop using your Divine Energy to fight it. Let the darkness get hold of you. Just accept it."
"What?!" Werkel wondered if he had heard it wrong. "Are you crazy?! We will be done for if we do that!"
Rifindo and the others were just about to say the same thing, but Roan didn’t give them the chance. "Shut the fuck up and do what I say! Otherwise, go bother someone else!"
